Beginner Raid Training

Beginner Raid Training

Raider? I don’t even know her!

The raiding scene in Guild Wars 2 can be hard to get in to at times. It is definitely true that with the power creep nowadays this has become less so, but it remains quite the challenge for more easygoing players.

Very often you will be confronted with the question for KP (killproof), the most common gatekeeping mechanic in Guild Wars 2 raids. It serves as proof that you have cleared the bosses to be encountered. The catch here is clear as day, how to acquire this when you won’t be given a chance to gain it.

As the old saying goes after all, “one does not simply walk into Ahdashim”, or something like that. Fear not! Once again EoL is here to help you out on your adventures. Join our beginner raid commander on an epic guided tour through various raid wings.

Beginner Raid Training

Keep calm and use special action key

Our training runs for beginners are open to all that are interested. All fights are explained in detail up front and pointers are given throughout the encounter.

Performance anxiety? Do not worry! We have no requirements in terms of DPS for these runs either. Our intent is to offer a safe space in which you can have your first look and feel for raids, focus on the mechanics and pacing, while receiving all the guidance we can offer.

No expectations are placed in terms of performance. Over time we have proven repeatedly that this approach has helped many to get into raids and develop into top-class raiders, that otherwise were not willing to face the constant backlash of not immediately performing at peak performance.

Requirements

As mentioned, we try to keep our beginner raids open to as many people as possible regardless of skill level, performance or gear. But since raids are still end-game content, there are some unavoidable requirements:

  • Only level 80 characters can join.
  • Your gear should be of (mainly) exotic quality and (near) level 80. Reach out to the raid commander up front if you need help on this, we can usually still sort this out for you and guide you to the correct set/stats within an hour or two.
  • Join the voice chat (listening only is sufficient). It will take too long to write out all explanations in chat. Giving pointers during the fight is near impossible via chat.

Aside from the requirements there are also general rules in code of conduct. These apply to raids in general:

  • Respect that this is a beginner training. People might perform poorly as they are overwhelmed by input of all the new mechanics. When joining you accept that we might be stuck on a single boss all evening.
  • Respect the tag. Aka, no backseat commanding. The commander calls the shots, mechanics, when to reset a fight, etc. You are free to help out when it is asked but do not start calling out mechanics or actions in voice chat without agreement. This makes commanding more difficult due to overlapping chatter and is generally considered rude.
  • Keep chat to a minimum during fights. We understand you want to elaborate on “how you died, and that normally never happens” which you are free to do after the encounter.
  • Be on time or notify. People can be late, this is a game so as we say “real life always comes first”, but try to notify us when that happens. We will wait a few minutes, after which your spot is taken by a reserve or LFG pug. Once someone else is in they will not be kicked if you show up later and you will have to wait until a spot becomes free. Upon repeated unnotified no-shows you will be blocked from signing up.
  • You are free to leave early. Time zones vary so we understand you might not be able to join for the entire run. It is always good practice to mention your role in the party before leaving

What to expect

It is not always communicated up front which raid wings will be tackled during the beginner training. This is because it depends on various factors:

  • How many new people are joining
  • Does the wing have the option for the emboldened buff (making it easier to clear) or the double reward buff
  • How many people joined last week, if there is a lot of overlap we prefer to throw in some variation
  • Are very specific builds needed and is an experienced player available to cover it, for example a handkiter or tower mesmer
  • And most importantly: what the commander feels like doing
Beginner Raid Training

Whatever wing is chosen, whether it be for beginner training or general raids in EoL, WE NEVER ASK KP. The vision of our guild is to provide a safe space that encourages learning by positive stimulation.

On an evening you can expect a few bosses to be explained and successfully cleared. There is ample room for a light-hearted atmosphere with plenty of banter, humour and conversation. Be prepared for a high dose of double entendre jokes and over the top whimsical theatrics.

On the other hand, seriousness is expected at the moments it is needed. We teach not only how to clear a boss, but also what is expected in terms of behaviour during a raid encounter.

We stress the fact that we are NOT a high-class raiding guild, nor are we trying to. We offer a foot in the door into the raiding scene, allowing those that wish it to grow further beyond what we offer.

For those that do not want that, and simply want to enjoy the occasional raid, work on their legendary raid armor, or just enjoy an evening of banter, you will definitely feel right at home.

Late to the raiding scene himself, commander Pluisje Mc Fluffy vowed to offer an environment for new people to enjoy raids. Being one of the original founders, and current leaders of EoL, he has been leading the weekly beginner raid training from the very start. Always helpful to those in need, yet equally terrifying for those that attempt to harm his Envoys.
